Permanent Ramps

We make and install bespoke permanent ramps for public and private buildings, usually for disabled users, but also for deliveries. Portable Ramps

As before, all the portable ramps we make are bespoke, ensuring you have a ramp that is as easy as possible for you to use safely on your own or with assistance if you are a wheelchair user. Consideration has to be given to the ability to lift, carry and manoeuvre the ramp, as well as possible placement and storage restrictions. In terms of gradient, a 1.6 or 1.8 gradient is generally manageable for an average weight person to be pushed in a wheelchair by an average strength person. For unassisted access a 1.8 gradient is quite usual.

The building regulations covering permanent ramps for disabled users Generally speaking, the lower a ramp’s gradient the safer and easier it is for wheelchair and scooter users to move along by themselves or for helpers to push someone in a wheelchair. To protect the safety of users and comply with building regulations, any permanent ramp that isn’t for a private home must have: * A width of at least 1.5 metres * A 1.5 metre landing for every 10 metres of length * Upturns on either side that are at least 100mm high * Continuous handrails on either side if it is over 2 metres long * A non-slip surface * A clear, flat space of at least 1.2 metres top and bottom to ensure safe access * A gradient of 1:12 if it’s 2 metres long, of 1.15 if it’s 5 metres long and 1.20 if it’s 10 metres long (with proportionate gradients in between) If you would like further advice or guidance on this, please send us an email or call.
